A 13-year-old boy, Anayo Stephen, has made a daring escape from kidnappers after they allegedly dozed off in the bush.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, Anayo, from Ubaha-Akparu community in Ideato Local Government Area of Imo State, was abducted on Saturday, August 9, 2025, while on his way to fetch grass for goats. Four young men in a Hilux vehicle reportedly stopped him, asking for directions, before whisking him away to an undisclosed location.
The boy told police that while his captors slept beside him in the bush, he quietly slipped away. Eventually, he encountered vigilante operatives at Ideani Junction, Anambra State, and narrated his ordeal.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed on Monday, August 11, that the teenager was now in safe custody. “The victim speaks both Igbo and English fluently, and we are seeking the public’s help to share his picture for possible identification and to reunite him with his family,” Ikenga said.
