2027 Elections: Too Early to Decide Presidential Candidate — ADC

Abuja, July 27, 2025 — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that it is premature to determine who will emerge as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, said the ADC’s current focus is on building a formidable political structure, not on individual aspirations.

“We don’t have any favourite aspirants or candidates. We are not having any conversation at the moment,” Abdullahi stated.

“Nobody has ever had any conversation about who will be the party’s flag bearer. We believe that it is too early in the day. Our focus now is to build a political party that is strong enough to deliver on the mission that we have set for ourselves.”

Rumored Aspirants Yet to Declare

Despite growing speculation, no official declaration has been made by any potential contenders for the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket. However, three high-profile names continue to surface in political circles:

  • Atiku Abubakar – former Vice President of Nigeria

  • Peter Obi – former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate

  • Rotimi Amaechi – former Minister of Transportation

The trio, considered influential figures in Nigerian politics, are reportedly part of ongoing coalition talks aimed at reshaping the political landscape ahead of the next presidential election. However, none have formally aligned with the ADC or declared an intent to contest under its banner.

A Focus on Structure Over Speculation

The ADC has maintained that institutional growth and ideological clarity are more critical at this stage than chasing political personalities.

“We are setting up the structures and ideas needed to ensure that our party is not just a platform for electioneering, but a movement for national transformation,” Abdullahi said.

As political realignments begin to take shape nationwide, the ADC’s neutral stance may position it as a strategic platform in the 2027 political contest.
