2027: Jonathan’s Men Push Comeback Agenda Amid Growing Speculations

Fresh reports from within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suggest that loyalists of former President Goodluck Jonathan are quietly working to bring him back into the 2027 presidential race. According to The Nation, signals from Jonathan’s camp show he may be rethinking his earlier stance of staying away from active partisan politics.

Insiders at Wadata Plaza, the PDP’s national secretariat, disclosed that high-level consultations are ongoing, with Jonathan personally reaching out to influential Nigerians. One of those reportedly visited is former military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida, in what many see as part of his underground moves.

Interestingly, Jonathan’s recent comment about betrayal during the 2015 election loss is being described by his allies as strategic. A close associate noted that the statement was not just a reflection of the past but also a calculated attempt to test the political waters and draw public sympathy ahead of a possible comeback.

Some political observers have compared the remark to Jonathan’s 2010 declaration when he sought the PDP ticket for the 2011 election. Adding to the speculation, his cousin, Robert Azibaola, dismissed reports that Jonathan had no interest in 2027, stressing that the former president has never publicly ruled himself out of the race.

While Jonathan himself has not given a direct confirmation, his silence is fueling speculation. To many, the door to his return in 2027 is far from closed.
