2027 Presidency: I’m Better Prepared to Fix Nigeria — Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has declared that he is better prepared to confront Nigeria’s economic and security challenges if given another opportunity to lead the country.

Obi made the assertion during an interactive X Space session on Sunday, where he responded to questions from Nigerians across the country. He argued that none of the politicians positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race can match his experience of starting a small business from scratch and growing it into a major corporation.

According to the former Anambra State governor, Nigeria’s economic problems are deeply connected to its insecurity, insisting that fixing the economy would naturally reduce crime and instability.

“I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from the ground up and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President. I’m a finance person. I understand how to manage resources,” Obi said.

He explained that his focus would be on small businesses and manufacturers, stressing that they are the backbone of strong economies around the world. With the right policies, he said, Nigeria’s entrepreneurs would thrive and create jobs.

Obi also dismissed rumours that he was planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition as a vice-presidential candidate, stating clearly, “I will be on the ballot in 2027.”

While affirming his support for the ADC coalition, Obi urged his followers, popularly known as “Obidients,” to avoid violence, insults and online abuse, even when provoked.

“We can’t solve Nigeria’s problems by bullying or name-calling. We will solve them by putting the right people in charge,” he said, adding that politics requires openness and collaboration.

Reacting to criticisms and insults from opponents, Obi said they do not distract him from his goal. “If calling me stupid or an idiot will solve Nigeria’s problems, I’m ready to go to court and change my name to ‘Obi Stupid,’” he remarked.

He concluded by advising his supporters to respond to falsehood with facts, engage opponents respectfully, and remain focused on peaceful advocacy for national change.
