Dear Esteemed Citizens of Edo,
As we stand at the threshold of a new chapter in our state’s governance, I write to you in the spirit of transparency and shared responsibility. His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo’s recent assumption of office and the announcement of his five-point agenda signify a pivotal moment for Edo State. However, it is imperative that we address the concerns that linger in the hearts and minds of our people.
Governor Monday Okpebholo has made key appointments that reflect his vision for our state. While these appointments may provide a glimpse into his priorities, they do not suffice in assuring us of how he will engage with you, the citizens of Edo. Participatory governance is not merely a concept; it is a necessity for fostering trust and collaboration between our leaders and the people they serve. As of now, we lack a clear framework outlining how he plans to involve citizens in the decision-making processes that directly affect our lives.
Moreover, the recent transition process has left many questions unanswered. Citizens are still in the dark regarding the current state of our state’s assets and liabilities. This lack of transparency is concerning, particularly in light of the ambitious five-point agenda. How will these initiatives be funded? What mechanisms are in place to ensure accountability and sustainability? These questions are essential, and it is the right of every Edo citizen to seek clarity.
In this period of uncertainty, I urge you, the citizens of Edo, to begin formulating your own strategies for engagement. It is vital that we hold our leaders accountable and advocate for our collective needs. We must demand a governance model that prioritizes communication, transparency, and active participation from all stakeholders.
Let us work together to ensure that our voices are heard and our rights respected. As we navigate this new political landscape, let us remain vigilant and proactive in shaping the future of our beloved Edo State.
Sincerely,
Rev. David Ugolor
