THE appointment of former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, as Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has confirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s status as the third most corrupt political leader.

According to reports, Al-Makura and his wife were arrested in 2021 over suspicious transactions involving 55 accounts controlled by the couple and their companies. The EFCC alleged that the accounts were used to launder billions of naira during Al-Makura’s tenure as governor.
Critics have questioned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Al-Makura to lead UBEC, despite the corruption allegations.
