Governor Adeleke Quashes Defection Rumors, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has firmly dismissed circulating rumors that he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming his unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Monday during the flag-off ceremony of the dualisation of the 3.5km Ila township road in Ila-Orangun, Governor Adeleke addressed the speculations head-on, stating clearly, “I was elected on the platform of the PDP and so shall I remain in the party. I’m not going anywhere.”

The governor emphasized that his primary focus remains on delivering on his promises to the people of Osun State. He noted that his commitment is not just political, but a vow to both God and the citizens to prioritize development and service delivery.

Despite what he referred to as “lingering uncertainties in the nation,” Adeleke expressed joy over the commencement of the road project, which marks a continuation of his administration’s efforts to transform infrastructure across the state.

“So far, we have completed the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and renovation of over 175 kilometres of roads,” the governor boasted, adding that several other key projects—including dual carriageways and flyovers—are in progress.

Adeleke underscored the strategic importance of completing the Osogbo–Ikirun–Inisha–Okuku–Ijabe–Ila Odo road, a 39km stretch that connects Osun to neighboring Kwara State. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to finishing the project as part of a broader infrastructure push.

He also highlighted that the second phase of the Ila township road project, now underway, will match the length of what was completed in the area over the last 12 years—and promised to deliver it within just 12 months.

“Our gathering here to witness the materialisation of a new era is not an accident of history,” he said. “We are all programmed by Almighty God to be what we have been, what we are, and what we will be in the future.”

With these statements, Governor Adeleke put to rest any lingering doubts about his political allegiance and reiterated his steadfast focus on governance, development, and the well-being of the people of Osun State.
