After a Decade of Trial, EFCC Secures Justice Against ₦700m NLNG Fraudster Jonathan Wallang

After ten long years of courtroom battles, tears, and tireless pursuit of justice, relief has finally come for members of the NLNG Cooperative Society. Jonathan Wallang, a man who once promised them real estate prosperity in Abuja, will now spend the next seven years behind bars for orchestrating a brazen ₦700 million fraud scheme.

Wallang’s deceitful empire crumbled before Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja. The EFCC had accused him and a few others of manipulating the trust of the cooperative with forged documents and fake property deals. But after years of denying the allegations, the gavel finally came down hard on him.

Two of his co-accused didn’t live to see the verdict, and one was acquitted. But Wallang was found guilty on five out of seven counts, including forgery, conspiracy, and obtaining money under false pretenses. Justice Muazu sentenced him to seven years in prison and ordered him to refund ₦580 million to the NLNG Cooperative.

For members of the NLNG staff who watched their hard-earned savings vanish over empty promises, this verdict is more than legal satisfaction—it’s a long-awaited closure. The judgment sends a clear message: no matter how long it takes, fraud will not go unpunished.
