Lauretta Onochie, once the outspoken Special Assistant on Digital and Social Media to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has poured out her heart in a deeply personal message to her late boss — and it’s a mix of grief, frustration, and disappointment.
In a Facebook post that felt more like a letter to an old friend than a political statement, Onochie mourned what she believes the All Progressives Congress (APC) has become since Buhari’s exit from office. She said the party, which once stood for fairness, equity, justice, and accountability, now operates more like a private business than a political movement.
“Dear Baba, APC is now a Private Enterprise. It has lost all the values you stood for,” she wrote, her words carrying both affection and pain. She accused the ruling party of throwing away the principles Buhari fought for — using the slang ‘kpaied’ to drive home the point that those values weren’t just lost, they were buried.
Onochie painted a disturbing picture of a culture of impunity, where wrongdoing isn’t punished but rewarded. She recalled incidents of APC chieftains allegedly assaulting airport staff, hijacking planes, and yet being elevated to ambassadorial positions. “Iniquities are sprayed with roses and perfumes — unless you belong to the opposition,” she lamented.
Yet, in the middle of her disappointment, there was still a spark of loyalty. She promised Buhari — or perhaps his memory — that those who truly believed in him would not abandon the ideals he lived by.
“Sorry Baba, there’s no more APC,” she wrote with finality, before adding a heartfelt thanks. “Thank you for showing us that righteousness is possible among Nigerians and in Nigeria. God bless your soul.”
