The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come hard on Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of abandoning governance in the state while spending taxpayers’ money on foreign trips.
In a statement on Monday signed by its chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the APC alleged that Governor Adeleke sneaked out of Osun more than a month ago, only for it to later emerge that his trip to the U.S. was mainly to prepare for the wedding of his nephew, music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The party described the governor’s outings abroad as “disgraceful carriage,” pointing to viral photos and videos showing him in beer parlours and drumming with unidentified men. According to the APC, Adeleke tried to present the trip as an investor-hunting mission, but in reality, it was nothing more than wasteful jamborees at the expense of the state.
“It is laughable that over a week after Davido’s wedding, the governor is still in America, claiming to be wooing investors. This is a poorly packaged excuse to cover his junketing and lack of good judgement,” the statement read.
The APC also accused Adeleke of having a track record of reckless spending, alleging that he squandered ₦3.1 billion on foreign trips in just the first half of 2025, in addition to ₦1.2 billion in 2024 and ₦753 million in 2023 — with no tangible investments to show for it. “This governor has wasted over ₦6 billion on travels in 30 months without attracting a single foreign direct investment,” Lawal said.
The party didn’t stop there. It pointed to worsening challenges in Osun — from civil servants allegedly staying away from work over security concerns, to the unresolved recruitment saga where more than 32,000 applicants reportedly paid fees but were never employed. It also accused Adeleke of sacking 1,500 teachers without providing replacements, thereby deepening the rot in the state’s education system.
“Osun schools are short of teachers. Our hospitals lack doctors and nurses. Youths are jobless, and insecurity is biting. But instead of fixing these problems, the governor is dancing around the U.S.,” the APC said.
The opposition party concluded by calling on Governor Adeleke to return immediately and face the real issues in Osun, rather than “living large abroad while the people suffer.”
