Three Yahoo Boys Convicted After EFCC Raid at Obasanjo Library Hotel in Abeokuta

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of three internet fraudsters arrested at a hotel inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) complex in Abeokuta.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, sitting as a vacation judge, delivered the ruling on Monday after the defendants pleaded guilty to cybercrime-related offences.

The convicts — Adewale Adewole Adenekan, Oyatokun Damilola Qudus, and Adisa Okikiade — were arraigned separately by the EFCC. Adenekan admitted guilt and confirmed restitution of ₦200,000. His iPhone 14 Pro Max was tendered as evidence. He was sentenced to one month in prison with an option of ₦300,000 fine.

Similarly, Qudus and Okikiade both pleaded guilty and received the same sentence of one month’s imprisonment, with an option of fine. The charges detailed how they impersonated foreigners on Google and Instagram to defraud unsuspecting victims, violating the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.

This latest conviction follows an earlier ruling on August 15, where Justice Dipeolu also sentenced three other internet fraudsters — Isaac Akinwale, Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo — who were among 93 suspects arrested at the same OOPL hotel by the EFCC.
