Enenche Enenche’s Bail Ruling Stalled Again as He Laments 49 Days in Detention

The prolonged legal battle of Abuja-based activist and comedian, Peter Enenche, better known as Enenche Enenche, has taken another twist as the FCT High Court adjourned the ruling on his bail application to August 20, 2025.

Enenche, through his lawyer, Dr. S. M. Oyeghe, Esq., is fighting to have his bail restored after it was revoked by Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna following his compulsory retirement on July 1. The ruling was initially expected on August 19, but the court shifted it forward, leaving him to spend more days behind bars.

At the centre of the storm is his ideological face-off with Pastor Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre. Alongside former Dunamis pastor Abraham Daniel, Enenche is facing charges of defamation over social media posts that allegedly maligned the clergyman. While charges against Pastor Paul’s younger brother, Alexander Enenche, and Reno Omokri have been dropped, only Enenche and Daniel remain in the dock.

For many observers, the case has become a symbol of how the justice system tilts in favour of the powerful. The Magistrate who revoked his bail had earlier been accused of bias and compromise, yet refused to recuse himself. Critics say this fast-tracked bail revocation was part of a broader effort to keep Enenche silenced.

Speaking from detention, Enenche painted a grim picture of his ordeal. “I have spent 49 days in detention on a presumed civil case turned criminal. Seventeen days in prison before arraignment, nine days before bail, and now 23 days since my bail was revoked,” he lamented.

Yet, his resolve remains unbroken. “Unless my matter is reassigned and bail granted, I am ready to stay in prison till 2030. I am willing to pay any price to make sure those bending and influencing the system are forced to appear in court,” he declared boldly.

He also dismissed reports linking his incarceration to a group called Concerned Christian Youth Forum, led by Paul Adama, describing it as a political gimmick. According to him, the group was only registered on March 12, 2025, long after his initial detention. “How can a group that didn’t exist at the time take people to prison?” he asked.

In a message to his supporters, he remained defiant: “Be strong. I am refined. I will never bend, never back down, never surrender.”
