THE Mt. Kenya region, a significant player in Kenyan politics, is reportedly planning to rally behind a single candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

This strategic decision aims to increase voter turnout to 85%, a notable jump from the 65% recorded in 2022.

The region’s voters have previously demonstrated their influence, with William Ruto securing 3.4 million votes and Raila Odinga garnering 1 million votes in the 2022 elections.

Key Factors Influencing the Election

The key factors Influencing voters turnout strategy in the previous elections is also needed in 2027: The “kumira kumira” push, similar to strategies used in 2013 and 2017, is expected to drive high voter turnout.

The region might shift its support from the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities, which have held the presidency for 64 years, to another community. The unified voting bloc could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) faces hurdles, including budget cuts and delays in appointing new commissioners, which could impact the election’s preparedness and fairness.

Ditto Kahi Indimuli, former Kenya Secondary School Heads Association chairman Kahi Indimuli who has announced his intention to run for governor of Vihiga County in the 2027 elections.
