International Wahala: Nigeria Police Nab, Deport Chinese Gang Leader After One-Year Manhunt

The Nigeria Police Force, working hand-in-hand with INTERPOL, has finally ended the hide-and-seek game of a notorious Chinese gang leader, Mr. Dai Qisheng, who had been on the run for over a year. His arrest in Abuja and subsequent deportation back to China mark a major victory in Nigeria’s fight against international crime.

Force PRO, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, described the joint operation as a landmark success that shows Nigeria is not a safe ground for fugitives. According to him, the coordinated effort involved INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, proving the strength of international partnerships.

Qisheng had been declared wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for leading a violent gang accused of several organised crimes. After a warrant was issued, he fled to Nigeria in 2024, believing he could escape justice. Unknown to him, INTERPOL operatives in Abuja had been quietly tracking his moves until they finally closed in on him earlier this month.

He was arrested on August 8, 2025, and immediately processed for deportation. By August 15, he was flown back to Beijing under a police-to-police cooperation framework coordinated by INTERPOL.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for the successful operation, stressing that Nigeria would never serve as a “safe haven” for international fugitives. He also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intelligence-sharing and stronger global cooperation in fighting organised crime.
