ASABA — A tragic accident claimed four lives and left two others injured yesterday after a cement-laden trailer lost control and crushed a tricycle around the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba, Delta State.
The crash, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., left onlookers in shock as emergency responders rushed to the scene. Eyewitnesses revealed that the impact was severe, with the tricycle completely pinned under the weight of the fallen trailer.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Delta, Mr. Frederick Ogidan, confirmed the incident, attributing it to overspeeding. He explained that three of the victims died instantly, while one later passed away at the hospital.
Ogidan further noted that the injured survivors are receiving treatment, while investigations are ongoing. He disclosed that some of the deceased were tricycle passengers, while others were inside the cement trailer belonging to a private company.
