The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has backtracked on his earlier claim that no agreement exists between the Federal Government and ASUU. In a fresh statement on Friday, he clarified that the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement is indeed valid and enforceable, contrary to his remarks the day before.
His initial comment in Abuja — dismissing ASUU’s position as “just a draft” with no signed agreement — sparked immediate backlash from the union, which insisted on the legitimacy of the deal.
Alausa went on to explain that while the 2009 and 2011 agreements were products of negotiations, they remain binding points of reference in the ongoing struggles between government and ASUU.
