Fresh violence has rocked Plateau State as gunmen attacked seven communities in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, leaving at least 30 houses destroyed and over 300 residents displaced. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the assaults.
The incident comes barely six days after four herders were k!lled and one injured in Fili village, Doemak district, under the same LGA. Locals said the victims were attacked while grazing their animals.
Confirming the latest wave of destruction, the spokesman of the council, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, said affected communities include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom. He noted that the council chairman, Christopher Manship, has already visited the areas.
Sylvanus explained that Manship held a stakeholders’ meeting with community and religious leaders, urging residents to remain vigilant and united. Security agencies, he added, have been deployed to restore peace and normalcy.
“The Executive Chairman has lamented the attacks and called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and development associations to join hands with him to find a lasting solution,” Sylvanus said.
Meanwhile, displaced families are taking refuge in nearby communities as authorities continue efforts to stabilize the troubled district.
