El-Rufai Blasts Kaduna Police Over Summon, Calls It “Dangerous Lawlessness”

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken a swipe at the state Commissioner of Police, accusing him of breaching the Nigerian Constitution. El-Rufai described the summon issued against him as a “dangerous descent into lawlessness” by the Kaduna State Police Command.

The controversy started after police allegedly stopped a planned meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state. Following that, El-Rufai and seven ADC members were invited for questioning. They were accused of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and even causing grievous harm.

According to the summon, the ADC Chairman in Kaduna was instructed to produce El-Rufai and the other members before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8. This directive has since sparked political tension and heated reactions.

Reacting at a press conference held in his private residence, El-Rufai strongly condemned the move. He argued that the Police Commissioner was acting outside the law, claiming he had been shown a paper allegedly presented as a court order, but which had never been legally served.

El-Rufai insisted that even if such an injunction existed, it must be formally delivered before it could be enforced. He maintained that the process was unconstitutional, stressing that “this is a dangerous descent into lawlessness.” He added that he and his team would challenge the injunction in court and take further legal steps.
