Ogun Govt Seals Five Chinese Firms, Alleges Assault on Officials Over Environmental Offences

The Ogun State government has sealed five Chinese-owned companies operating in the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway over alleged environmental violations. The firms are DL Plastics Limited, Dyschenghan Plastics, SH Agricultural Limited, Beautiful Fibre Limited, and Jincaicai Nigeria Limited.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Abayomi Hunye, disclosed this on Thursday. He said the companies were shut down for serious infractions, including improper waste disposal, indiscriminate burning of waste, and refusal to engage government-accredited waste collectors.

According to Hunye, the companies ignored multiple letters, warnings, and even official notices pasted at their premises over the past six months. He lamented that instead of complying, the firms went as far as breaking government chains used to seal their gates.

The situation escalated when OGWAMA officials, accompanied by law enforcement officers, returned to enforce the seal-up order. Hunye alleged that the companies mobilized their workers, who then attacked the officials, inflicting bodily harm on some of them. The injured officers were rushed to the hospital.

“We have been on this case for the past six months. Despite several letters, visits, and even notices of intention to seal, they refused to comply. Last week, when we locked their gates, they broke government seals and chains. When our officials returned with security operatives, their workers launched a mob attack, leaving our people injured,” Hunye explained.

The OGWAMA boss condemned the alleged actions of the companies, describing them as both an environmental nuisance and a threat to state authority. He stressed that Ogun State would not tolerate such behavior from businesses hiding under the guise of foreign investment.

“Any of them caught in such acts will be prosecuted under the laws of the land,” he warned.
