Wike Under Fire as US Records Expose $2m Florida Mansion Linked to His Family

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has landed in hot water after documents from the United States revealed that his family quietly acquired a $2 million mansion in Florida. The property, registered in the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and their children — Joaquin, Jazmyne, and Jordan — was purchased in March 2025, raising eyebrows back home.

The two-storey house, located at 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, sits on a 4,076-square-foot lot and comes with a garage big enough for two cars. What sparked suspicion, however, was the absence of Wike’s name on the paperwork. Sources claim this move was deliberate, aimed at avoiding Nigeria’s asset disclosure rules and shielding the true source of funds.

Questions are now flying over how a serving minister, with an official annual package of just ₦7.8 million ($5,000), could afford such an expensive foreign property. Critics argue this deal might breach Nigeria’s Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which forbids the use of illicit funds for overseas acquisitions.

This is not Wike’s first brush with controversy. He has previously been linked to a $3.6 billion FCT land-grab scandal allegedly tied to his son, Joaquin. The involvement of his wife, a sitting judge, has further stirred debate, as judicial officers are expected to steer clear of any financial dealings that even hint at impropriety.
