Sowore Blasts Wike Over Controversial Tinubu Comment

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over a controversial remark allegedly suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should have “assassinated” him.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore launched a scathing attack, calling Wike a “drunkard, murderer, landgrabber and thief,” while questioning his fitness for public office. He accused the former Rivers State governor of land racketeering in Abuja, squandering Rivers’ resources, and being complicit in the killings of civilians in Obigbo during the 2020 security crackdown.

“If Nigerians weren’t so docile, complacent, and cowardly, criminals, thieves, and murderers like Wike would never have any leadership roles in this country. SAD!” Sowore wrote.

The activist’s outburst follows Wike’s reported dig at him during a recent political gathering, where the minister dismissed his constant criticisms of the administration and allegedly suggested that President Tinubu should have taken harsher measures against him.

Sowore, who has built his reputation on blunt criticism of successive governments, insisted that Wike should be facing trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague instead of occupying a ministerial seat.

The fiery exchange has once again spotlighted Nigeria’s tense political climate, where outspoken opposition figures often clash with serving government officials in bruising verbal battles.
