A string of violent incidents has plunged Edo State into crisis, with residents living in fear of kidnappings, ambushes, and killings. The latest incidents include the killing of a man in Igun and the Ambassador Bobshoe was robbed, not murdered, highlighting the growing insecurity in the region.
Governor Monday Okpebholo has convened a high-level meeting with security chiefs to address the rising cases of violence, emphasizing the need for proactive strategies to restore peace and ensure citizens’ safety.
However, critics argue that the government’s response has been inadequate, with some calling for a state of emergency to be declared.
The Edo State Civil Society Coalition for Human Rights has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity in the state, citing the relentless surge in abductions, ambushes, and killings.
Recent incidents include:
Kidnapping Incidents
Eight NSCDC Officers Killed: In Agenebode, eight officers were killed, and a Chinese National was abducted.
Bus Hijacking: An 18-seater bus was hijacked with all passengers kidnapped on Benin-Akure road.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to stay safe, such as avoiding traveling alone at night and keeping valuables secure.
The government must also take decisive action to address the root causes of insecurity and ensure the safety of its citizens.
