The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, has accused former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of leaving the state with abandoned projects and allegedly looted assets.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Achida claimed Tambuwal deliberately refused to formally hand over power to Governor Ahmed Aliyu in 2023, allegedly to avoid scrutiny over the state’s condition. He said the move was intended to frustrate the current administration.
Despite the allegations, Achida commended Governor Aliyu for what he described as prudent financial management. He highlighted timely salary payments, the implementation of the new minimum wage, and ongoing major development projects—all achieved without borrowing. “Governor Aliyu is committed to the welfare of the people rather than looting public resources,” Achida said.
On Tambuwal’s political prospects, the APC chairman argued that the former governor lacks an independent political base and depends heavily on political godfathers, particularly Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. He described Tambuwal as “politically retired,” suggesting he is unlikely to contest future governorship or senatorial elections.
When reached for comment, a former member of Tambuwal’s cabinet, who preferred anonymity, said a formal response would be issued at the appropriate time.
