Fear gripped Yandoto community in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday morning after armed bandits stormed a mosque during prayers. The attackers opened fire on worshippers, killing at least five people on the spot before dragging several others into the forest.
The incident, reported by counter-insurgency platform Zagazola Makama, left the community in deep shock. Residents later gathered in grief to bury the victims, their prayers filled with sorrow and calls for divine intervention.
A community elder, speaking with heavy emotion, prayed for mercy upon the departed: “May Allah forgive their shortcomings, accept them as martyrs, and bring an end to this bloodshed in our land.” His words reflected the collective pain of a people caught in recurring violence.
This attack comes less than a week after another group of gunmen abducted 40 worshippers during dawn prayers in Gidan Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA. Witnesses said the assailants surrounded the mosque at about 5:30 a.m., forcing the faithful out at gunpoint before leading them into the forest near Gohori.
So far, security agencies and local authorities have remained silent on the latest assault, leaving residents fearful and uncertain about what comes next. The repeated strikes have deepened calls for stronger security intervention in Zamfara communities.
