Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued two Nigerian Immigration Service officers abducted in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The officers, identified as David Iorwuese James and Orasuur Oliver, were kidnapped a few weeks ago near the Benue–Taraba border. Acting on credible intelligence from Appropriate Superior Authority, OPWS launched a daring rescue mission on Friday, September 26, 2025.
According to Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, the coordinated operation was carried out in Tse Tembe and Adamawa Village within the Azendeshi Council Ward of Ukum LGA. The kidnappers fled under intense military pressure, enabling the safe recovery of the officers at Adamawa Village. Both victims are currently in OPWS custody, receiving medical care and undergoing debriefing.
Commending the troops, OPWS Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, praised their professionalism and swift response. He emphasized that the rescue reflects the operation’s determination to protect citizens and support farmers in Benue and neighbouring states to boost food security.
General Gara also urged residents to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in defeating criminal networks across the region.
