The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, to mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary. The decision was disclosed in a Monday night statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Imohiosen stressed that the cancellation does not diminish the significance of the milestone celebration. He explained that while the parade will no longer hold, other scheduled programmes for the anniversary remain intact. The government, he said, remains committed to celebrating the occasion with dignity, enthusiasm, and national pride.
“The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation,” the statement noted, adding that Nigeria’s leadership values the understanding and cooperation of citizens, the diplomatic community, and invited guests.
The Federal Government further appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which it described as essential for building a stronger, more prosperous nation.
