Nigeria and its Nordic partners have agreed to deepen collaboration across key sectors including green energy, digital technology, health innovation, and agriculture. The agreement was sealed at the Nordic Nigeria Connect 2025 business forum, held at the Lagos Continental Hotel.
The 4th edition of the forum—organized by the Nordic Embassies in Nigeria and their trade offices—brought together top government officials, innovators, and business leaders under the theme “Forging Partnerships for Sustainable Impact.” The event emphasized building inclusive, future-ready economies through mutual engagement and collaboration.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Ifeanyi Ossai, Deputy Governor of Enugu State; Lina Gandlose Hansen, Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade and Investment; and Jarno Syrjälä, Finland’s Deputy Minister for International Trade.
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to formalize new partnerships. Notably, Empower New Energy, a Norwegian renewable energy firm, inked agreements to support solar and battery investments with Jendol Superstores and Jeddy Bolema. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Communication and Digital Economy signed an MoU with the Danish Embassy to advance digital transformation and innovation—marking what both countries described as “the beginning of a new era of technology-driven partnership.”
During his keynote speech, Finland’s Deputy Minister Syrjälä stressed that collaboration between Nigeria and the Nordic region would yield both commercial and environmental impact. This message was reinforced by Dr. Tijani, who described the Nordic countries as strategic allies in Nigeria’s journey toward a digital and sustainable future, urging that partnerships must “go beyond words” and create real opportunities for innovation and job creation.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Egube reaffirmed the state’s readiness to serve as the African launchpad for Nordic innovation. He emphasized that Lagos is moving from “conversation to co-creation,” driving clean energy, smart transportation, and digital health solutions that can scale across Africa.
This growing alliance between Nigeria and the Nordic nations signals a forward-looking approach to sustainable growth—one grounded in technology, green innovation, and mutual trust.
