An autopsy report has confirmed that former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, was murdered, the Lagos State Police Command has disclosed.
Akingboye, who was found dead under unclear circumstances on September 3, 2025, in the backyard of his Lagos residence, had initially been believed to have died mysteriously. His first son, Samuel Akingboye, who lives in Ondo State, subsequently petitioned the police, demanding a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his father’s death.
Speaking to Channels Television, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Jimoh, revealed that the autopsy—conducted on September 11, 2025—combined with additional investigative findings, led to the re-arrest and detention of seven out of the 14 family members earlier questioned.
“With the toxicology report now concluded, we are awaiting advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) so that prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder,” CP Jimoh stated.
He emphasized that the police are committed to pursuing the case to its logical conclusion and ensuring that all individuals involved are brought to justice. The Command is currently awaiting formal legal advice from the DPP to determine the next procedural steps.
One of the suspicious elements that drew investigators’ attention early in the case was a N50 million transfer from the deceased’s account, allegedly shared among some members of his immediate family. Detectives are probing this and other related clues as part of the broader investigation.
