Kefas Put Politics on Hold as Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Kidnap Deepens National Pain

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has stepped back from his planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), choosing empathy and national sensitivity over political celebration after the mass abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

In a formal statement, Governor Kefas said it would be morally insensitive to proceed with any political rally at a time when the country is grieving yet another heartbreaking incident of insecurity. He stressed that a new date for the defection would be announced later, but for now, humanity must come first.

“In light of the deeply troubling situation involving the kidnapping of innocent schoolgirls in Kebbi State, I have made the solemn decision to postpone my scheduled move to APC,” Kefas said, adding that the safety and dignity of children—Nigeria’s most vulnerable—far outweigh any political move.

He extended his solidarity to the families of the abducted girls, the government and people of Kebbi State, and Nigerians everywhere touched by the tragedy, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, moments like these demand national unity, compassion, and an unwavering focus on rescuing the victims.

Given his longstanding commitment to security, education, and the protection of vulnerable citizens, Governor Kefas said it would be “morally right and nationally responsible” to suspend all political activities until the crisis receives the urgent response it requires.

He also called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped schoolgirls.
