The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, after a viral video showed him driving at high speed while livestreaming — an act that reportedly ended in a serious road accident.
According to the police, the incident happened on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and posed serious danger not just to the influencer himself but also to other road users. The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, captured Peller driving recklessly while engaging his online audience.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the influencer was taken into custody following widespread public concern over the video. The police described his conduct as extremely dangerous and irresponsible, stressing that it put innocent lives at risk.
The statement noted that Peller was seen driving at a dangerous speed during a live broadcast, which eventually led to a motor accident. The police added that the matter is now under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to the command, the outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded, in line with existing laws.
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and content creators. He cautioned against using online platforms to encourage or glorify reckless, unlawful or dangerous behaviour for views or engagement.
The police command reiterated that such actions would not be tolerated and assured the public of its commitment to maintaining safety on Lagos roads. Road users were also urged to obey traffic regulations at all times to prevent avoidable tragedies.
