Abducted Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, has reportedly died while in captivity, SaharaReporters has learned. The priest and his wife, Sarah Achi, were kidnapped from their home in the Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025. Their abduction was first reported by SaharaReporters on October 29.
Earlier, the kidnappers had sent photographs of the couple to their family as proof of life, demanding a ransom of N600 million. The images showed Venerable Achi and his wife in a distressed state, alongside other captives, reportedly tied in chains and appearing malnourished.
A source confirmed to SaharaReporters on Wednesday night that Venerable Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna, had died in captivity. The news adds to a growing list of violent incidents in the region.
In a related attack, bandits had previously killed two police officers in the Southern Kaduna area. The incident occurred on a Friday evening inside a Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, the headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, according to residents.
These incidents underscore the growing insecurity in Kaduna State, raising urgent calls for stronger interventions to protect lives and communities.
