Gunmen on Sunday launched a terrifying attack on a church in Kogi State, abducting the pastor, his wife, and several church members. The incident occurred at the newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, during Sunday service.
Residents recounted scenes of chaos as worshippers ran for safety while gunshots rang through the community. The pastor, popularly known as Orlando, and his wife were among those taken away, though the exact number of victims is yet to be confirmed.
The Kogi State Government has since intensified surveillance and launched a manhunt for the attackers. Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, assured that security agencies are working tirelessly to secure the release of the abducted victims.
“The authorities of Yagba West Local Government Council are working closely with security agencies to ensure those kidnapped are rescued alive. The perpetrators already know that Kogi will do everything possible to secure its citizens,” Fanwo stated.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is personally coordinating the rescue efforts, while residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements. Citizens in crime-prone areas are advised to reconsider attending worship services until the situation stabilizes.
