“Remember Where You Started” — Regina Akume Urges SGF Husband to Return Fully to Christianity

Mrs Regina Akume, the lawmaker representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, has publicly appealed to her husband, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to fully return to Christianity, stressing that his rise and achievements in life were rooted in his Christian faith.

Her appeal was made in a now-viral video recorded during the wedding reception of their son, held on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State. The event also came shortly after Senator Akume marked his 72nd birthday.

While offering a birthday prayer for her husband, Mrs Akume asked God to grant him long life, sound health, and wisdom, but went further to remind him of what she described as the spiritual foundation of his success.

“I pray that the Lord will increase his years, grant him good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things rightly,” she said.

She emphasised that Christianity played a central role in her husband’s journey to prominence, warning that abandoning the faith could have consequences.

“He should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To abandon Christianity now and pursue anything else, he will not be successful,” she stated.

Addressing him directly, she added, “My advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ.”

Mrs Akume further stressed that their family’s progress was not by any other means but through their faith. “We came all the way to SGF not through any other means but through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us. I wish that he will come back to Christianity,” she said.

Her remarks come amid ongoing discussions on social and traditional media over reports that Senator Akume recently married another wife, said to be a prominent figure within Nigeria’s royal and elite circles and introduced as Her Highness, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh.

The comments have since sparked wide public reactions, with many interpreting them as both a personal appeal and a public statement of faith made at a significant family event.
