Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has praised residents for their continued support, reaffirming that his 2026 focus remains on building a prosperous, inclusive, and economically diversified state through strategic infrastructure and human capital development. In his New Year broadcast, Abiodun described Ogun State as a community united by shared purpose, emphasizing collaboration between government and citizens as essential for sustainable progress.
Highlighting achievements in 2025, the Governor noted significant economic growth, with the state’s GDP estimated at ₦17 trillion and Internally Generated Revenue rising to ₦250 billion. Key infrastructure milestones include the completion of Gateway International Airport, over 1,500 kilometres of roads, and ongoing work on the Kajola and Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Ports. Abiodun also pointed to advancements in healthcare, education, agriculture, and social investment, such as the expansion of the state health insurance scheme, skills acquisition for over 39,000 residents, and support for more than 33,000 farmers.
In a notable exercise of mercy, Governor Abiodun granted clemency to 71 inmates, including early releases, compassionate releases for the elderly or infirm, and commutations of death sentences to life imprisonment. He stressed rehabilitation and reintegration as central to ensuring beneficiaries contribute meaningfully to society.
Abiodun further highlighted support for women and small businesses, disbursing grants totaling over ₦1.1 billion, while strengthening security through the recruitment and equipping of 6,700 personnel. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and citizen participation in the 2026 budget process, assuring residents that sustainable development and shared prosperity remain top priorities.
