Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has called on Nigerian leaders to prioritise the welfare of citizens and embrace people-focused leadership in 2026, emphasising that unity, shared responsibility, and integrity are key to securing the nation’s future amid ongoing economic challenges and insecurity.
In his New Year message to Nigerians, Jonathan reflected on the difficulties of the past year, noting that economic pressures and persistent insecurity tested the resilience of citizens, causing hardship for many families. He urged leaders to adopt service-driven governance, guided by humility and integrity, to address the nation’s pressing needs.
Despite these challenges, Jonathan commended Nigerians for their courage, solidarity, and perseverance, highlighting their resilience as a core strength that continues to sustain communities through uncertainty. He noted that collective effort and shared values are essential to overcoming national difficulties.
Looking ahead, the former president emphasised that progress depends on mutual respect, patriotism, and steadfast dedication to the national interest. “Leadership at all levels must be anchored in service, guided by humility, integrity, and a sincere commitment to the welfare of the people,” Jonathan stated.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful and fulfilling year, calling for renewed commitment to unity, justice, and inclusive development, while praying for steady progress toward a better, more prosperous nation in 2026.
