Kalu Pledges to Deliver Abia to APC Ahead of 2027 Governorship Race

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District and is a former governor of Abia State, has declared his determination to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.

Kalu made this known during his annual New Year visit to the APC Chairman in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area. Speaking openly, the senator said that although the current Abia State governor from the Labour Party is his personal friend, party loyalty would guide his political actions in 2027.

According to Kalu, Abia is firmly on the path to becoming an APC state, stressing that he would commit his energy, influence, and resources to secure victory for both President Bola Tinubu and the APC governorship candidate in the state. He described his commitment as total, saying he was ready to “lay his heart on the field” to achieve the goal.

The former governor also called on state governors across the country to take responsibility for security within their states, rather than leaving the burden solely on the president. Drawing from his time as Abia governor, Kalu recalled that the state enjoyed strong security under his leadership, with minimal cases of kidnapping and violent crime.

He praised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for maintaining peace and stability, urging other governors to emulate the approach. Kalu also used the occasion to shower encomiums on Chief Okoro-Emegha, describing him as a symbol of loyalty and trustworthiness, attributes he said have defined his political journey.

Kalu recounted how Okoro-Emegha served under successive leaders in Ebonyi, earning key security roles before becoming APC state chairman. He credited him with playing a major role in strengthening security in both Abia and Ebonyi States, adding that such loyalty and dedication were rare qualities in politics today.
