Reps Release Tinubu’s Four Tax Reform Acts Amid Transparency Concerns

The House of Representatives has released the full texts of four tax reform Acts recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, following growing public concerns over alleged alterations and the circulation of unauthorised versions.

The move, led by Speaker of the House, Rep. Abbas Tajudeen, came after a joint directive with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, ordering the immediate publication of the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the laws, including the endorsement and assent pages signed by the President.

In a statement signed by the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, the release was described as a clear demonstration of the Speaker’s commitment to transparency, legislative integrity and public trust. The House explained that discrepancies in some versions of the tax laws came to light after a member raised the issue on the floor under a point of privilege.

Acting swiftly, Speaker Abbas ordered an internal verification and directed that the certified versions be made public to remove doubts, correct misinformation and protect the credibility of the legislative process.

According to the House, the tax reform journey involved extensive stakeholder engagement, committee scrutiny, clause-by-clause reviews and robust debates at plenary, all aimed at aligning the reforms with Nigeria’s economic realities and development goals.

The four Acts released are the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; the National Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act, 2025. Lawmakers described them as the foundation of Nigeria’s modern tax framework, designed to improve compliance, reduce inefficiencies and strengthen coordination across all levels of government.

Speaker Abbas reassured Nigerians that the National Assembly remains an institution governed by strict records, procedures and verification systems. He stressed that the only valid versions of the tax laws are those certified and released by the legislature, urging the public to ignore any other copies in circulation.

The House also disclosed that an ad-hoc committee chaired by Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara is investigating how the unauthorised versions emerged and will recommend measures to prevent a repeat.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, constitutionalism and accountable governance, pledging to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s law-making process.
