Tinubu Celebrates Labour Leader Issa Aremu at 65

President Bola Tinubu has sent warm congratulations to Comrade Issa Obalowu Aremu, mni, the Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), as he marks his 65th birthday.

The message was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The President described Aremu as a distinguished labour leader whose life has been defined by decades of service to workers and the nation at large.

Comrade Aremu, a former journalist turned trade unionist, has spent over 40 years advocating for workers’ rights, democracy, and sustainable industrial development in Nigeria. He previously served as General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) and was an executive member of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) between 2008 and 2020.

According to Onanuga, President Tinubu joined the Aremu family, friends, and the wider labour movement in celebrating “a frontline apostle of good governance, peace, and justice.” The President praised Aremu’s courage, consistency, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers.

Tinubu also commended Aremu as a prolific writer and public intellectual, thanking him for his continued support and contributions to national discourse. He prayed that the new phase of Aremu’s life would bring good health, renewed strength, and greater opportunities to keep serving the country.
