Boko Haram Suicide Attack Kills Five Soldiers in Borno’s Timbuktu Triangle

Five soldiers have been killed and several others injured after a Boko Haram suicide bomber rammed a military convoy in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State. Security sources confirmed that a major and a lieutenant were among those affected.

The attack occurred as troops were returning from a clearance operation that successfully dislodged multiple insurgent camps. According to an officer, the terrorists used a car laden with explosives to breach the convoy, destroying armoured and logistics vehicles in the process. The casualties were evacuated to Maiduguri for medical attention, while the corpses of the fallen soldiers were also flown to the state capital.

Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), explained that the troops encountered two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) during consolidation. One VBIED was neutralised, but the second breached the defensive position, affecting logistics platforms and leading to casualties among soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force members.

The operation received aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force, ensuring the safe evacuation of the wounded and providing security cover for ground forces, who continued neutralising terrorists in the area. The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram in Borno, despite ongoing military offensives aimed at reclaiming territory and dismantling insurgent networks.
