Northern Traditional Rulers Pledge Support for Security Efforts in South-East and South-South

The Northern Traditional Rulers Council for the South-South and South-East regions has pledged to work closely with state governments and security agencies to address growing security concerns. This resolution followed a two-day emergency meeting in Umuahia, chaired by Alhaji Yaro Danladi, who also leads the Hausa community in Abia State.

Danladi explained that the council resolved that northern communities would collaborate with governors, host communities, and security agencies to promote peace and harmony. He noted that representatives would be appointed across the 17 local government areas in Abia to ensure rapid transmission of security-related information to authorities.

The council made it clear that criminals within their communities would not be shielded. Anyone found engaging in unlawful activities would be handed over to law enforcement agencies. Youths were also urged to respect the laws of their host states and maintain peaceful relationships with their neighbours.

Leaders highlighted that many northerners have lived in these regions since the 1940s, with intermarriages and a long history of peaceful coexistence. They called for stronger collaboration between state governments and northern leaders to enhance integration and collective security.

Other community leaders from Enugu and Cross River reaffirmed their commitment to improving coordination, welfare delivery, and intelligence sharing through structured community representation down to local levels. They also emphasized the traditional role of the “Sarkin Hausawa” as the recognized first point of contact for issues concerning northern residents, helping to sustain order, harmony, and security across the regions.
