Tesla: Tesla and IG Metall reach a settlement in court


In the dispute over an alleged audio recording of a works council meeting, the car manufacturer Tesla and the IG Metall union have reached a settlement before the labor court in Frankfurt (Oder). A court spokeswoman told the dpa news agency that both sides had committed not to repeat certain allegations and allegations surrounding the controversial meeting on February 10th until the end of the works council elections on March 4th.

Regardless of this decision, the public prosecutor’s office is still investigating a union secretary of IG Metall and André Thierig, the factory manager of the Tesla factory in Grünheide. Tesla had reported the union secretarybecause he allegedly recorded the works council meeting without permission on his laptop. IG Metall rejected the accusation as untrue and reported Thierig for slander. IG Metall had a case before the labor court requested an injunction against Thierig.

Conflict between Tesla and union comes to a head

IG Metall district manager Jan Otto said of the comparison that they could now fully concentrate on the content a few days before the works council election at the beginning of March. Next week’s election is about better working conditions in the Tesla factory. “There’s a lot to do,” said Otto.

The conflict between Tesla and IG Metall has existed for a long time. It came to a head shortly before the works council election. The union is pushing for the introduction of a collective agreement, which the company does not believe is necessary.

Tesla boss Elon Musk recently indirectly hinted that that the expansion of the factory in Grünheide could be stoppedif IG Metall won the works council elections. IG Metall called the actions of Musk and the management in Grünheide “as transparent as they were undemocratic.”
