Gender pay gap: “Men’s salaries will not suddenly be reduced”

THE TIME: Germany must adopt the new pay transparency directive by June 7th EU implement. Will I get more money as an employee now?

Adam Sagan: Yes, if you have previously been discriminated against because of gender compared to your male colleagues. We currently have an unadjusted gender pay gap of 16 percent in Germany. If you take factors such as part-time work, different qualifications and professional profiles into account, it is still six percent. This difference does not have to be based solely on discrimination, but there is certainly discrimination involved. So there are women who do the same work or work of equal value and still earn less than Men. And they are entitled to equal pay. From a legal point of view, there is something to be said for this because an employee can also sue for this wage in the past.
