Bauchi Pledges Full Support for NYSC as 1,700 Corps Members Begin Service Year’

The National Youth Service Corps has received assurances from Bala Mohammed that the Bauchi State government will fully meet its statutory obligations under the scheme.

Governor Mohammed gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch “A” Stream II corps members deployed to the state for their mandatory one-year national service.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the objectives of the NYSC, noting that the scheme remains a vital tool for national unity and development. He added that the state government would continue to collaborate with the programme to ensure its smooth and effective operation.

Addressing the corps members, the governor urged them to take their service year seriously and make meaningful contributions to their host communities. He described the NYSC as a platform for personal growth and national impact, encouraging participants to maximise the opportunities presented during the orientation exercise.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, commended the governor for his continued support, particularly in improving infrastructure at the orientation camp.

He highlighted the construction of a multipurpose hall, renovation of corps members’ hostels, and repairs to damaged sections of the camp’s perimeter fence—interventions he said have significantly enhanced safety and welfare conditions.

Kufre noted that approximately 1,700 corps members have been deployed to Bauchi State for the service year, expressing confidence that they will undertake impactful community development projects across their assigned areas.

The ceremony marked the formal commencement of activities for the new batch, as they begin their journey of national service and community engagement.
