Retired DIG Urges Supporters to Remain Calm as Party Awaits Official Communication on 2027 Ticket
Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Gumel/Maigatari/Gagarawa/Sule Tankarkar Federal Constituency seat, has denied reports suggesting he has accepted the outcome of the party’s awaited consensus process for the 2027 election.
In a statement addressed to his supporters, Gumel said no official communication had been received from the Jigawa State APC leadership regarding the conclusion or final outcome of the consensus consultation for the constituency.
“It has become necessary to clarify certain impressions being circulated across some news mediums portraying me as accepting the awaited consensus process,” the statement read.
While reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and its leadership, Gumel stressed that consensus, by democratic standards, must be based on genuine engagements among stakeholders and aspirants.
“Consensus, by its very nature and global democratic practice, is a process built on consultations, mutual understanding, and engagement among stakeholders and aspirants,” he said. “It should not create the impression of imposition through technical or indirect means without proper communication and conclusion of consultations.”
The retired police chief reiterated his commitment to the unity and stability of the APC at all levels, but emphasized that due process and transparency remain essential to maintaining trust within the party.
Gumel urged his supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while awaiting an official statement from the party leadership.
“Let us not allow rumours, emotions, or misinformation to divide us. We must continue to uphold the values of maturity, discipline, patience, and unity for which our supporters are widely respected,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of Gumel, Gagarawa, Maigatari, and Sule Tankarkar for their continued prayers and confidence, pledging to work with them for the peace, progress, and development of the constituency and Jigawa State.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation in Jigawa political circles over the APC’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
