Gbajabiamila Reveals He Nearly Lost Presidency Job Over Obasa Impeachment Crisis Involving Desmond Elliot

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has disclosed that he nearly lost his position in the Presidency due to allegations linking actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot to the political crisis surrounding the attempted impeachment of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila made the revelation during an engagement with constituents and party members in Lagos State, where he recounted behind-the-scenes tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the controversial Assembly leadership dispute.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally summoned him to Abuja and confronted him over intelligence reports allegedly connecting Desmond Elliot to the crisis.

He said the President questioned Elliot’s loyalty and warned him to address the situation immediately, stating that security intelligence suggested involvement in activities destabilising the Lagos Assembly.

Gbajabiamila further revealed that he contacted Elliot after the meeting and urged him to clarify his position, warning him of the seriousness of the allegations.

He also disclosed that the matter escalated when the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly contacted him, saying his own name had been mentioned in connection with the political tensions.

The Chief of Staff said he was advised to ensure Elliot publicly distanced himself from the impeachment saga to avoid further political damage.

He added that the incident placed his job at risk but said his long-standing relationship with President Tinubu ultimately helped him retain his position.

Gbajabiamila also accused Elliot of allegedly contributing to political and religious tensions within their constituency, describing the development as unusual in his decades-long political experience.
