Character Is As Important As Academic Success — Igbobi College Principal Tells Students

The Principal of Igbobi College, Joseph Adediji, has stressed the importance of moral values alongside academic excellence, saying true success goes beyond good grades.

Adediji made the remarks during the school’s Academic and Behavioural Awards Ceremony held on Wednesday at the college premises in Yaba, Lagos.

According to him, the event was organised not only to celebrate students with outstanding academic records but also to recognise those who demonstrated discipline, resilience and positive behaviour throughout the year.

He explained that intelligence alone should not define excellence, adding that qualities such as integrity, empathy, perseverance and respect are equally important in shaping successful individuals.

The principal also reminded students that excellence is reflected in the way they treat others and contribute positively to their environment.

Addressing the award recipients, Adediji praised them for showing leadership not just in academics but also through their conduct and attitude. He commended the students for remaining focused despite distractions and for helping to build a positive school community.

He further appreciated parents, guardians and teachers for their support and sacrifices, noting that the students’ achievements were made possible through collective effort and guidance.

In his closing remarks, Adediji encouraged students to continue pursuing excellence while protecting their character and values. He described knowledge as a powerful tool but noted that character remains the compass that guides people through life.

He also urged the students to stay curious, disciplined and respectful in everything they do.
