The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary election in Surulere Constituency I, Lagos State, as peaceful, orderly, and transparent.
Gbajabiamila made the remarks after casting his vote at Ward G2 (Adeniran Ogunsanya Ward 5) in Alaka Housing Estate, noting that the process reflected what he called “credible internal democracy” within the party.
He said he was satisfied with the conduct of voters and party members, stressing that the exercise was calm and free of violence despite the competitive nature of party primaries.
According to him, turnout was impressive for a primary election, and reports from other wards in the constituency also indicated a similar peaceful atmosphere.
Observers at the venue, including local party leaders, also confirmed that the exercise was conducted without disruptions, urging aspirants to accept outcomes in the spirit of sportsmanship and party unity.
The Surulere Constituency I primary featured a contest between a Gbajabiamila-backed aspirant and incumbent lawmaker Desmond Elliot, drawing significant attention within Lagos APC circles.
Party stakeholders say the peaceful conduct of the exercise is an important signal ahead of broader electoral contests, especially in constituencies previously marked by internal tensions.
