“They Died Defending Nigeria” — IGP Disu Pays Emotional Tribute To 17 Fallen Police Officers Killed In Yobe Attack

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that the sacrifices made by the 17 Police Mobile Force officers killed during a terrorist attack in Yobe State will never be forgotten.

Speaking during a memorial parade held in Abuja on Tuesday, Disu described the slain officers as brave men who gave their lives while defending the country and protecting innocent citizens. The officers were killed in the early hours of May 18 after terrorists attacked the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Yobe State.

According to the IGP, the fallen officers represented the true meaning of patriotism and duty, noting that security personnel across the North-East continue to risk their lives daily in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

He explained that officers of the Police Mobile Force have remained actively involved in joint security operations alongside the military and other agencies, often working under dangerous and difficult conditions just to ensure Nigerians can live in peace.

Disu said every day, officers wake up with one mission — to serve, protect, and if necessary, make the ultimate sacrifice for the country. He added that behind every fallen officer is a grieving family, interrupted dreams, and a nation that owes them gratitude.

The police chief also sent condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them during this painful period.

He stressed that the memorial parade was organised not only to honour the dead officers but also to remind Nigerians that many security personnel continue to put their lives on the line daily for the safety of the nation.
