Abdulmumin Jibrin Bows Out of NNPP, Says He’ll Leave in Peace but “Set the Records Straight”

Kano lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin has confirmed his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), saying he has accepted the decision in good faith but will not shy away from addressing what he called “misleading claims” against him.

Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, said in a Saturday statement that while he had hoped to remain in the NNPP, he respects the party’s position and will walk away without grudges. “I beg the party to also allow me go in peace,” he pleaded.

The NNPP Chairman in Kano State, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, had earlier accused Jibrin of anti-party activities and neglecting his financial obligations. He dismissed the lawmaker as a “weak politician” who owed his electoral success to the Kwankwasiyya movement rather than his own strength.

Reacting, Jibrin admitted differences with the party but denied being disloyal. He maintained that due process was not followed in his expulsion but chose not to contest it in court out of respect for the NNPP. He also pledged to settle any outstanding dues once the party sends him an invoice.

Jibrin, a close ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, said he will carefully weigh his political options before announcing his next move. He assured supporters of his commitment to continue serving while urging NNPP members to avoid personal attacks. “I am old enough to take a political stand and stand by it,” he declared.
