Abia State Governor Alex Otti has explained that his recent visit to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto was motivated by dialogue and peace, not political ambition. Speaking at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti addressed concerns raised by a circulating social media video criticizing the visit.
The governor emphasized that differing opinions are part of a democratic society and do not automatically determine what is right. He reiterated that his interaction with Kanu was aimed at fostering understanding and national cohesion, rather than advancing personal political goals.
Otti also clarified his future intentions, stating he has no plans to contest any election after completing his tenure as governor. “By the time I complete my tenure as governor, I will retire from public office,” he assured, underscoring his commitment to peaceful dialogue over political maneuvering.
